Born May 9, 2005, DMNV Mountable was the first horse born into the partnership of cousins, Ezra Lee and Toby Dahl. With the dream of owning a money winning stallion to breed their own mares, the two waited patiently as “the Mountain” grew up on the family ranch outside of Roundup, Montana. For the next year and a half the Mountain ran outside. Traversing rimrocks and deadfalls, the colt built the joints, tendons and ligaments that would someday propel him to the lead in 3 grade one stakes races in one year.
Early in January of his 2 year old year—haired up and pot bellied—the mountain was gathered up and shipped off to Oklahoma to begin his training. Trainer Jacque Uphaus took the little Montana-bred under her wing and slowly nurtured the little colt into racing condition, building the foundation that would become a racing connection to be reckoned with. The mountain won four out of five races as a two year old, including the Grade 2 Kansas Jackpot Futurity.
Patience paid off as the mountain began his derby year with the Grade 2 Harrah’s Entertainment Derby. The three year old ran second by a nose to the great filly Eyes A Jumpin. Next came came a full length victory over Furrtreeous in the Grade 1 Remington Park Derby. Pulling off the derby double, the mountain defeated Coronas Fast Dash by a nose in the Grade 1 Heritage Place Derby. The colt then spent his summer in New Mexico pulling off a third in the Grade 2 Hobbs American Derby before moving to Dallas to make his bid for his third Grade 1 stake victory. On November 29th, 2008, DMNV Mountable defeated Coronas Leaving You to capture his third Grade 1 stakes race in the $383,756 Texas Classic Derby, taking his lifetime earnings to $476,410 with a speed index of 107.
The 4 year old bay stallion has become a dream come true. With brains and the disposition to match his speed and will to win, we believe that DMNV Mountable is destined to be one of the great sires of our generation.
May you be blessed with Racing Luck.
